India’s Independence Day was celebrated on the 15th August. Our Indian Tricolour was raised at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre by the chief guest Mr Chhibubhai Bhana in presence of around 80 people. Mr Chhotubhai Sima addressed the members for the occasion.
The day after on Saturday the 16th, the cultural programme was presented for the Independence day celebration. Various different items for different parts of India we’re performed, making the show very vibrant and colourful. Several New Zealand Government members also attended. My sincere thanks go to all the participants and all the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort.
Coming up is our most popular and colourful Navratri festival starting 30th September and ending on 10th October. Our association has called four talented singers and musicians from India to perform during the 10 nights. I am sure their music will get your feet moving all 10 nights. So don’t miss this occasion to enjoy time with your family and friends and also to make new friends. Not to mention the variety of hot food available for purchase for your enjoyment, all thanks to our catering committee. Let us all get behind this wonderful festival to make it a greater success than last year.
Soon after Navratri is the annual Diwali concert to be held on Saturday 1st of November. Please do not miss this show which involves a unique twist. Those who would like to perform please contact us well in advance.
